Despite the presence of many risk factors (high fat intake, hypertension, smoking) the French, who drink wine regularly, present a low incidence of cardiovascular disease in comparison to other industrialized nations (click for more details).Some compounds present in the (red) wine other than alcohol might play a role in this cardio-vascular protective effect (learn more about these compounds).
