Approximate metric/imperial conversions
for cooking
These are approximate conversion that are useful in the kitchen
a range of accurate metric/imperial conversions can be found
elsewhere on this site.

Temperature: °C = (°F -32) x 5/9 (32 °F = 0 °C and 212 °F = 100 °C)

Examples:
50 °F = 10 °C

68 °F = 20 °C

86 °F = 30 °C

Useful approximate conversions

25-30 g = 1 ounce (real value 28.35 g)

1 kg = 2 pounds (real value 907.2 g)

1 liter = 2 pints (real value 1136.4 ml)

25 mm (2.5 cm) = 1 inch (real value 25.4 mm)

 

Other useful approximations

1/4 pint = 1 1/2 dl or 150 ml

1/2 pint = 1/4 l or 250 ml or 2 1/2 dl

1/4 pound = 125 g

1/2 pound = 250 g or 1/4 kg
